Doesn't WordPress have something called "trackback" that informs a cited source when it has been quoted on another blog? For example, if I shared a post of yours on my blog, then you'd get notification of this on your blog. I wonder if this could be extended/modified to enable the equivalent of Twitter retweets and even comments. For example, if I quote your post on my blog with further text, maybe that constitutes the equivalent of a Twitter reply. Thoughts?

@darenwelsh Yes, I thought of that. But what we really need is a different protocol, since a trackback really isn't precisely the same as a reply, and a string of trackbacks doesn't add up to a thread.
